Locks of Love

The "before and after"...

I cut my hair off yesterday. I did it! Ok, well James did it. I was so scared and so nervous. I have been thinking about this for awhile and you have no idea how easy it would have been to chicken out. But Lucy was my motivation. As if to rub it in, I got several compliments on my long hair the last couple of days. Is that fate testing my will power?! James, the hair dresser, could see my nervousness. He asked me if I wanted to wait a month. My hair would be longer. I told him no, I was ready. I was afraid if I walked out of the salon with long hair, I wouldn't get the nerve up again. He asked me if I was doing this for a special reason. I told him it was in honor of my niece Lucy. And then I started to cry. He was really so sweet about it. He just put his arm around my shoulders and let me sob. So when I composed myself again I told him the story of our princess Lucy biting the apple. She was my reason, my motivation that I was cutting 10 inches of hair off and donating it to Locks of Love. Locks of Love makes wigs out of real hair for little kids. There are a lot of hair donation places out there but I choose that because of Lucy. Lucy has given a lot to a lot of people. She have given new life to other little ones. If Lucy could donate her organs, the least I could do was donate my hair!

I have no idea why the video is on there twice! And when I discovered it and tried to edit it out- my edit page shows no video there AT ALL! WHAT?!

Wow Joy, what a neat thing to do in honor of Lucy. You are an amazing person. I think you are beautiful inside and out. I think you look great with short hair too.

Wow, you go girl! The short looks awesome on you. I love getting big haricuts b/c it IS like starting anew (like the zit thing and everything else), so I'm sure you're gonna love this new stage in your life, so to speak. Besides, it's fun to shake up a hairstyle every once in a while. Maybe I'll go butch. Just kidding. And how sweet it's in honor of Lucy. Gosh, what can I do for her? Um, my hair's not long enough to donate. I'll have to think about what I can do.

Nice job Joy. It's funny because the other day I thought to myself, "I've never seen Joy with short hair. I wonder if she'll ever cut it." You did! What a nice thing to do. I'll bet it's a blessing for locks of love to get 10 inches of REAL blonde hair--not bleached and unhealthy. You look great!

Way to go Joy! You look just as beautiful with short hair as you did with long hair. What a neat thing to donate to Locks of Love and in honor of Lucy. I can still remember when I had my long hair cut short right before I left for my mission. After the cut, I was so shocked, I cried and cried. I even had nightmares about it that night. Go figure.

Oh, Joy, you have inspired me with your love for Lucy. I was thinking too what I could give. I'll tell you when I can come up with it. Lucy did give so much and her parents of course made that happen. Thanks Vic and Molly for your courage. Love Mom

Joy, you look so pretty with short hair. I want to see what it looks like curly. What a thoughtful thing to do.

Wow! I like it. I'm so used to it long that I'm in shock! I like the shots that Jason took at home after the cut. I was just looking at a picture of me the other day when my hair was even longer than yours had been, and I was thinking I'd like to try growing it a bit longer than it is now. Maybe I'll trade places with you!

Joy I love your new haircut! I want to see what it looks like curly as well, so get Jason on that, please! I like it! Real beauty is so much more than inches of hair! And that, my dear, you have in abundance. In, out, and all around. It is just there. you ARE JOY. Lucy is proud of your sacrifice too, I am sure. Even with my very short hair , I am surprised how much easier it is to take care of when I get a measly inch taken off. A pic of you and Allie would be nice as TWINS too.
( I got a little teary with the video too! )
