Last night was Sandia National Laboratory's Division 5000's annual night at the zoo -that is a mouthful. The above photo is Luke counting to 5,000. (He got to 10). We LOVE zoo night! It is so fun for the whole family. They have hot dogs, hamburgers, chicken with potato salad and chips and all the fixin's (is fixin' a southern word?) and you eat in the beautiful green grass below the green canopy of cotton wood trees and in front of the the outdoor stage with the live music playing (usually some group of one of the employees). They were really good. And then you run around to see as many of the animals as you can before they go to bed. Which isn't many. But still, it is so fun!
I love these photos. You can see why Luke has a hard time keeping up with Allie. It is all in the length of your stride- just like your cross country coach and Pres. Kimball said.
Jason took some snapshots for the Ottesens while the rest of us looked at the animals. Here is a nice photo of Mitchell:
And now for the highlight of the evening! Jingles the Clown painted Allie and Luke's face. They were THRILLED!!! And of course did NOT want to wash their faces when they got home. Luke's little face has a blue car on it. He made me pretend it was driving all over his face last night as I was tucking him in. He loved it even though his photo below doesn't show very much enthusiasm. She was smart. She would paint on the little kids hands while painting on their face. It helps them to hold still while their face is being worked on.

Joy, you have beautiful children, and you are a great photographer. Alli looks so cute with her face painted and it matched her shirt even!! You have been able to capture some great shots of your kids in this and previous posts. Have you had lessons? Any tips for a novice like me?
It looks like you all had fun.
Aunt Bonnie
That is quite a title for the event but it sounds like a lot of fun. I'll bet it is nice to be associated with the base and all the perks, without living on base.
The kids look really fun. Saturday morning cartoons and chocolate caliente, the perfect combination!
We are always saying how big Allie looks to us. She is sure getting and acting a little older all the time isn't she?
It was funny, without even finishing the rest of the first sentence, Krista said, "That's a mouthful!"
I wish we were able to go and visit Mitchelle and Even and the boys more at the reunion. Mitchelle has gotten to be a pretty big guy.
Can you believe what cute grandkids I have? Allie reminded me of something out of the Batman movie, not that I've seen the movie. Really cute!
Wesley seems so mellow, but, always looking for something to get into. I liked the actions of Allie and Luke to not let him get their chocolate.
The zoo day sounded fun. Wish we could have gone with you.
Grandpa Payne
By the way, the way to pronounce the word is fix'n. There is no i in it or g in it. I remember one of the ladies in our Ward giving a talk and speaking about the 3 be'ns in the Godheaad.
Grandpa
I remember joining you all for a ...Zoo...Night... (forgive the abbreviation). It was a lot of fun. The kids look great with their face paint.
Oh, Pat, don't we have darling grandchildren? I love to see these pictures. We have runners in our family. You do too don't you? I worry that they will grow up without us. Guess we can't do any thing about distance.MOM
i love the face painting pics! so fun, you can tell how pretty allie knows she is with that sparkly butterfly on her darling face! gorgeous.
yes fixin' is a southern term
also "i'm fixin' to go to the store" which term i use regularly (it's one of a short list of truly southern-isms that i use) :)
Wow! The pictures are amazing! Jingles is a little freaky - but the kids look absolutely adorable!
Your kids are stinkin' cute!
Check out that hair, your boy's got some nice wavy hair goin' on.
wow, those face paintings are so cool. Kinda makes me want one too!
