First day of Kindergarten

It was rainy and overcast today- perfect for my mood. I may have shed a few tears possibly as I dropped off my oldest child at school but I did not sob. I may have shed even more tears when I picked her up all smiley and happy but I did not sob. So I would call it a success.

Allie has been so excited for this day. She was so ready. I tossed and turned and slept terribly last night. Our wonderful neighbors who are so good to us watched Wesley and Luke while I took Allie to school. We arrived on campus just a few minutes before the final bell as the kids were heading to their class. Allie was saying hello and waving to every kid she saw. After all they all go to her school. We arrived at her class, hung up her backpack and immediately she found a new friend named Haley. The PTO puts on a Boohoo Breakfast for the kindergartners and their parents on the first day so we headed to the cafeteria for juice and muffins. After that we hugged and waved goodbye and she was gone.

The boys and I missed her. Luke asked several times where Allie was. It is going to be interesting to watch the dynamics change at home. We were all excited to pick her up after school. Allie said it was great! I asked her about lunch since we sent her with a packed lunch and she said they have the coolest tables- they even fold up. That is pretty cool (now if I could just get one that clears itself off). And of course one of her favorite parts of the day was recess.

And just to drive home what a great day it was.... the symbol of good luck came crawling down our hall after baths tonight- a vinegaroon.

P.S. Happy Birthday Wendy! Happy Anniversary James and Lindsay. And we hope you had a good first day of kindergarten too Tía Mo Mo.

WOW. Kindergarten!?!? Wow.
Sounds like the first day was a hit! I actually remember my first day of kindergarten, I made a friend immediately & thought "I am doing so great, I already made a new friend!"--I was so proud of myself...hahaha. Love the pics of your pretty girl--

AND *YIKES*,
keep those scary things OUT OF YOUR HALLWAY!!!

I would have cried too if I had been there.. and I'm just the aunt. Doesn't she realize what she's getting herself into??!!! No, I guess she doesn't. I have a feeling she's going to be really popular though. Anyone who waves and says hi to any kid she sees is the next Student Body President if you ask me. Doesn't she know what she's getting herself into?!

Good job Joy not sobbing. I love the idea of a Boohoo breakfast. It would be fun to get to see all of the kids/parents interact for a minute before letting them go.
And way to go Allie! She's going to take HER school by storm.

Yea for school! Can't wait to hear all about her adventures. Does she sit in your new kitchen and tell you about her day over a glass of milk and cookies? Isn't it great to live in this day and still get to be a stay-at-home mom!!!!

Good job Allie! I agree, I think she'll be very popular and a class leader. And good job Joy for keeping it together.

Seriously, she's in school??? But on the other hand, looking at her pictures she looks sooo much older than that. Here's to a greta year Allie! (And I think the breakfast was the best idea. Clever administration you got there.)

That's great that she loves school! I think it would be easier as a mom to have your kid love kindergarten, than hate it. It would be so hard to send them knowing they didn't like where they were going. We're still excited for more pictures of your progress on the home!

That sounded so like Shara...ready as could be and marching in assuming it would be the funnest thing EVER.

gotta love Kindergarten! Still...that time went fast. I wish I could be closer and know your kids better but thank you so much for blogging so we can get a feel for your sweet kids and family!

I love how you found the GOOD in your dvd player breaking! YAY!

sniff! Jenny asked me if I wanted to come with her to send the kids off the first day. I said no- its bad when a wierd lady is crying and its not even HER kids going off to school! I thought I'd spare everyone that sight.
