No School- Day 3

We have had school canceled for the 3rd day in a row- now due to freezing temperatures. Last night I think it was -14º. It has warmed up to a balmy 17º. The buses wouldn't start and people's pipes are bursting all over town (including schools and businesses) . We have a couple of faucets on to a slow drip to keep the water moving. The governor has asked everyone to turn down their thermostats 10º lower to try to conserve the gas. Sandia has the gas shut off and they are sending people home with the hope to conserve enough natural gas to heat rest of the city.

It's cold.

Day 3, see that is the difference between experience and lack thereof I guess. We haven't been above 0 since Monday. One night the airport reported -61 with the windchill and our daytime high was -14 or something. School and work were not delayed or cancelled. Cars wouldn't start and you'll get frostbite in minutes, but such is life. Oh an our bus garage has all of the busses plugged in all winter LOL Enjoy making up your snow days in spring :)

We are on day 4 now of no school or work. That is so funny Dave. It must seem like nice weather compared to Wyoming. I think one of the biggest reason everything is closing down is there is not enough natural gas to heat everything as usual. Something about rolling brown outs in TX that are affecting us?

Anyway, we are trying to make the most of it! :)

I experienced the rolling brownouts in San Antonio this week. We got to work at 8am and it was dark in the building. It was extremely cold, but the temps weren't that bad. I'm sure it was the humidity and the wind that made it feel so cold. Hopefully you'll be back to work and school on Monday!

Wow-sounds cold. If people are keeping their thermostats at 10 degrees, they all need some kind of alternate heating I suppose? Does your fireplace work?

Craziness. I had no idea you were facing this. Has this ever happened before in your neck of the woods?

I am pretty sure we have set records this last week.

I just re-read your post and realized you had to turn your heat down 10 degrees LOWER, not down to ten degrees. That makes me feel sheepish, but better for you!

Thursday morning last week, it was -31 in our driveway, -34 in Moriarty. It's amazing how warm -6 can feel after days in the double digit negatives.
