Just Get Me to the Church on Time

We usually do a great job of arriving on time to church. Church starts at 11am so we start getting ready after breakfast (around 8:30am) with the goal to leave at 10:30am. With that kind of a time frame, we usually don't have trouble making it. If every event, every dr. appt., etc had a 2 hour window of time to get ready then I would ALWAYS be on time. Anyway, I have been slowing down a little these last couple of weeks if you had not guessed. This morning, we were on track until we sat down to read some books before we got dressed in our Sunday clothes. I got really drowsy so I HAD to snooze- just for a few minutes. A few minutes too many and we were late to church. Allie and Luke always like to say hi to Jason (the kiss and a hug) before church starts but today the opening hymn was already playing when we walked in the back end of the building. Allie took off running toward the chapel with Luke following behind and I, waddling at the very back, trying to keep up. She is very fast and I am very slow these days. It took me a second to find her and sit down but we made it before the end of the opening song. What I did not know until much later and many people commenting was what happened before we found each other and took our seats. Apparently Allie RAN into the chapel and yelled "DAD!", ran up the isle, ran on to the stand, ducked around the chorister leading the hymn, and gave her Dad a kiss and a hug before coming back down. That was when Luke and I finally made it in the door to the chapel, got the program and took our seats. People thought it was touching- I thought it was embarrassing although I totally missed it so I guess it doesn't matter anyway!

Merry Christmas

We had our ward Christmas party on Dec. 15th. It was a really nice dinner and Christmas program and then after the closing prayer Santa showed up (a nice way to do that for those who don't feel the need to stick around for the big red guy. It also helps keep a theme of reverence for the true celebration). There were A LOT of people there! That is really one of our best activities of the year. We had a great time and so did the kids! Luke didn't say to much to Santa Claus- of course he doesn't talk yet- but he didn't run away screaming either. Allie told Santa all about her new baby brother who is coming and then of course the things she was wanting (some kind of Barbie was it? I don't remember what she said. She doesn't either which is a good thing since she didn't get it).
Our very first Christmas alone- just our little family! We had a great time although it did feel strangely quiet. The neighbors brought over all kinds of gifts. We have yet to take ours to them. I wanted to make potato rolls to go with the cactus jelly that we made from the prickly pear cactus growing just around our neighborhood. Two DOUBLE batches totally flopped! I am at the end of our yeast. I guess it's dead and inactive (as opposed to "Live Active" yeast) since the rolls never rose. At first I thought it was because the kitchen wasn't warm enough. How annoying and frustrating! Well, our gift will obviously be a "Happy New Year" one!

Here are a few more shots. For those who weren't there, it rained almost the entire weekend- EXCEPT the morning of the wedding. After the photos were taken and we were all safely indoors, it started to rain again. How considerate, don't you think?!

The MEN

We took A LOT of photos of the boys trying to get everyone smiling and looking at the camera at the same time. This is as close as we got and then... Vic wasn't even there! Peter, the new brother-in-law, is in this photo. If you look way in the back next to the girl in the puffy white dress- that's HIM!

We had a GREAT time in AZ for tía Wendy's wedding last week. We have a lot of photos and some video that we are going to experiment with uploading so we are going to try to do this in stages. Here are a few shots of the little cousins. Below is Lucy jumping on the bed. I know, I know she looks just miserable. Well sweetheart- life is rough! She and Luke had the best time... and then she gave Luke a bloody lip. It's all fun and games until someone draws blood. And yes, I the adult stood by watching and taking pictures the whole time!

This adorable little guy is Thacker and he and Luke used to look so much alike. We called him "Luke Alike" for awhile but they have each grown into their own. He does the funniest little growl/snort where he wrinkles his nose up (as evident below). It was so funny! What a great way to let others know you are happy!
We had a couple of rotten behavior days after we got home (kind of like after Thanksgiving). I think the kids go through "withdrawls" of not getting to play with their cousins. It's rough but totally worth it. I guess I feel the same in a way. I remember American History in Jr. High where we learned about pioneer women having sewing-bees. The women would get together and sew a bunch of quilts but it was mostly for their mutual support, friendship and emotional sanity- they got to talk- because then the would go back to their farmsteads and plantations etc. where it was day after day of hard work, sweat and toil. That is what I feel like when I get together with my sisters and sister-in-laws. You don't want to miss of moment of it when you're all together like that. (Lindsay and Maria- I am stilled bummed that I didn't get to go thrift store shopping with you!)

And this is why they will continue to share a room. Allie and Luke seem to play and have fun together more and more all the time. We went back and forth on how to set up the bedrooms with baby boy coming and the more we thought about it and the more we tried to invision who would go where, the more we decided NOT to seperate them. Not that Luke talks yet, but at night they sort of commincate? with each other as they are both in their beds going to sleep. Allie will yell to us too if she thinks Luke needs a drink of water or something. They really have a lot of fun together and Allie has become such a big help. We always tell our friends "If your going to have one, HAVE atleast TWO!" From our experience, it makes life sooooo much easier for everyone involved.

Not that I don't have my days. My last dr. appt. I asked him if he knew of anyway or if there are any wives tell's on how NOT to go into to labor (I am sure I am the only person who has asked that). I told him that maybe next spring or even next fall would work a lot better for us. He just laughed. We really are excited for our new baby boy... just not until January. In fact, after driving straight from Spanish Fork to Farmington (yes, straight through- we found out it is only 5 1/2 hrs.- who knew?!) and the kids did GREAT- Luke slept for most of it. Point being, after how easy and pleasant and nice of a drive we had, Jason said "Maybe we are ready for number three."

And so yes, even though Jenny thinks I am crazy, we will be putting all three kids in the same room. We will take "before and after" shots of the new room so stay tuned (I know you can all hardly wait!).

Allie has such wonderful cousins! Special thanks to Camille who shared her birthday present with her- plastic Barbie finger nails. Allie had the time of her life decorating her nails! She LOVED them (and then they promptly all popped off).

And for those who wanted to see my pregnant belly, we had a belly comparison. Allie laughs at this photo every time she sees it! "Uncle Jay Jay is pretending he has a baby! That's funny!" and then she laughs again. Well Jay and Ilene, we are thinking about you and hoping to hear some exciting news in the next few days to come. And we hope it's Ilene who has the baby, not Jay. Although that would be rather "exciting".
